Dump Everything...

...and head this way.  It's time to celebrate Caden's 3rd Birthday!

And celebrate we did! We held Caden's 3rd birthday party at the YMCA that is down the street from us.  We had big blow out parties at our house for his first and second birthdays, but we decided that, with a newborn at home, NOT having it at our house was a better option.  Best.  Idea.  Ever.  The YMCA has a room that has a big slide in it and a fenced in outdoor area with a playground too.  Some serious fun was had by our little friends!

It was pretty easy to come up a theme for someone who LOVES bulldozers, backhoes, dump trucks, cars, diggers, loaders, and tools - construction!  We decorated with construction hats for each of the kids, black, yellow, and orange balloons, and an amazing construction dig cupcake cake.

At first, we just let the kids play for awhile while everyone arrived.  Our boys were actually some of the last to arrive - it was very sleepy for Caden P that day.  He (of course!) took a 3.5 hour nap.  Oh well, he was late, but at least he was happy!
The weather was in our favor - after days and days of being REALLY hot, Sunday was much cooler.  It threatened to rain all day, but held off until it was time to come in and eat.  Then the skies opened up and poured!

As you can see, Asher loved the party too.  I think we might have another truck lover on our hands!
Then we did a 3 year old version of a piñata.  Instead of whacking it with a stick, each kiddo pulled a string.  One of the strings opened the piñata.  It didn't work perfectly, but the kids still got to play and still got some candy, so I think it was good enough!

After the piñata, it was time to eat "pizz-ee."  It was also a good chance to get pictures of all the cuties that were there - and thanks to the names on their hats I don't even have to write who most of them are!

Grace was such a trooper - what 10 year old girl wants to hang out at a construction party?  But, being the sweet girl that she is, she played with the kids, helped them eat their diner, and was a HUGE help.  We called her the "three year old whisperer" because they all followed her wherever she went!

The whole bunch!

After pizza, it was time for cake.  We were even able to Face Time with Papa and Gaga  so they could sing him Happy Birthday and join in the party remotely from Florida.

He had waited the whole party to be able to take the trucks off the cake!  He started using the backhoe to dig the frosting off the cake before we could stop him!

Then came the madness - present time!  Last year, we asked our friends to bring a toy to donate to The Children's Hospital.  We could get away with that because he didn't quite "get" how birthday parties worked.  Now he gets it.  We have been to a lot of parties and talked a lot about how the birthday kid will get presents and toys.  He has been waiting (as patiently as you can when you're this age) for his turn.  There was no way I could not let him open presents.  So we did.  And people were generous.  Overly generous, and now we own every truck known to man.  Where are we going to put them all?!?

It was mass chaos, but so much fun!

Papa and Gaga even "stayed" for the present opening

Parties and large crowds tend to be a little overwhelming for CP, but he did awesome.  Like any three year old, he wanted to open the boxes and start playing with every toy, but he made it through all of them, and then we FINALLY let him open a truck and play.

He was a happy boy!

All of this was just a little too much for Asher, though.  He needed a nap!

He did wake up long enough to meet some new people, however

After that, it was time for everyone to go home.  Caden said, "I ready to go home," so we sent both boys to our house with Nana and Grandpa Kim while we cleaned up.  By 6:45 we were all home and ready to play!

When I put CP to bed last night he said, "I want to go back to my party."  I think that is the sign of a very successful 3rd birthday party!  We're grateful to everyone that came to celebrate our special little guy.  Thank you for loving him (almost) as much as we do.  Today, we're laying low, playing with all of the new toys, and trying to come up with a plan on how we're going to store them all!
Happy 3rd Birthday Party Day, Caden P!  Only one more day until I'm the mommy of a three year old!!
