1st Haircut

It was time. He looked unloved and unkempt. He was continually mistaken for a girl. The boy needed a haircut.

So we went to a kiddie salon that specializes in this kind of thing
which, by the way, was too expensive and too far away. We probably won't go back, but for the first haircut it was totally worth it

He got to choose his "chair"

And then the nice lady put a cape on him (not a fan) and went to town chopping off those pretty (but slightly girly) curls he had. Here we are discussing how much to take off - a little off the back and sides, not too much off the top because we still have to do the comb over thing

I was shocked at how good he was. He started fussing at the end, but by that point the cut was almost over!

He even got a certificate to commemorate the occasion
Seriously, so handsome and BIG!
Afterwards we went to a toy store nearby. Caden loved playing with the train table and even made a new friend!

Then it was off to Noodles and Company for lunch - wow, can this boy eat mac and cheese!

It's been quite the week around here! Sometimes I look at him and think, "Who are you?!?" Then he smiles and giggles and I know my baby is still somewhere inside of this big toddler boy! Sigh!

Whoa!

I told someone last week that I was pretty sure Caden was going to go to his Senior Prom crawling and drinking milk out of a bottle. In the last three days he has made me eat my words. He now drinks 2-3 sippy cups of milk a day and, just yesterday, became a walker!

Whoa buddy boy, you have officially become a sippy-cup-drinking-toddler!

Sunday Snapshot {Let it Rain, Rain, Rain}

I'll be honest. I don't love the rain. Actually, I like to watch the rain and I like the smell of rain. I don't like to be in the rain. I think it's cold, and I've never gotten the fun of splashing in puddles. My littlest friend, however, loves the rain. Especially the puddles. Those are a good time. Now, I never would have taken him outside after the rain. It's cold and wet. And he might get cold and wet. I might get cold and wet. I think not.

I certainly would not have let him "drink" the rainwater off the deck
or his picnic table
I also would not have let him get soaking wet while crawling through puddles

However, after a rain storm one evening, I was not in charge. Grammy and Papa were in charge. So, before I knew it, they had taken him outside. He was soaking wet, giggling loudly, and trying to pop the bubbles that Papa was blowing for him.
And, after I watched him do this

and this

I decided I liked the rain after all.

Thank goodness for grandparents!

Where the Wild Things Are

Last week my parents and I took Caden to the zoo. We spent a few hours outside checking out the animals...
Doesn't he look super excited and into it?!?

Even though it was hot, we were still able to see some animals

Like bears,
and apes,
and elephants
Caden REALLY enjoyed the penguins
they were fun to watch AND the glass only went halfway up. Wow, fun times!
Do you notice how Papa is carrying him in every picture? On that particular day, C was pretty sure that Papa wanted to hold him and show him the animals. For hours. No Mommy, no Grammy. Just Papa.
Caden P also went on his very first carousel ride

After all that walking (or riding, as the case may be), we needed a little break
So we had a snack
And practiced walking (yep, STILL practicing)
And crawled around on the baby hippo
And then we went home for a nap. Well, one of us didn't quite make it home before falling asleep.
A great day out with the wild things!

Sunday Snapshot {Papa's Sweatshirt}

What's a little guy to do when he wants to go on a wagon ride, but it's too chilly to go out in his current diapered state?
Why, wear Papa's sweatshirt, of course!
Thanks for the sweatshirt (and the ride!), Papa!

I Said It Wouldn't...

I said it wouldn't happen

I saw it happen to my friends, but I said, "Not me!"

I admit it, I judged

But, today as I was looking around my house
I realized it was true

My living room, does in fact, look like a Toys R Us store. That will teach me to be judgemental!

4th of July

Our 4th of July was filled with...

neighborhood parades

snowcones at the park

playtime with Daddy and Papa

but unfortunately, no live fireworks - a big storm caused the show to be canceled and we had to settle for fireworks on TV.

All in all, a good time for our Yankee Doodle Dandy!

Sunday Snapshot {Napless Wonder}

A nap?

Who needs a nap?
Not when there are toys to play with...

and things to crawl over...

and ducks to, well, love on.

Not this kid

I'm pretty sure his Mommy could use one though!
