Thanks Auntie Meg!

This week my friend, Megan, came over to take pictures of Caden. She and Uncle Geo got a new camera and she has been practicing taking pictures with it. She thought she had gotten the hang of outdoor pics, but wanted some practice on indoor pics. She asked if she could come over to take pics of the cutest kiddo (ok, I said that, she didn't. She'd probably say the second cutest kiddo. Her nephew, Andrew, tops the list in her book!) around.

A free photo shoot with a fancy camera? It's on! I think the pictures are AMAZING, and we are so grateful to have them! I realize there are a million pictures here, but trust me, these are just a few of the fantastic shots she took that day.
Seriously, who has eyes and lashes like this???

Watch out people, we are almost mobile!

One of my all-time favorite pictures of Caden

Thank you for my pictures Auntie Meg, I love you!

Big Dude!

Today we took Caden in for his 6 month check up. Just as we thought, he is growing like a weed! He is now:
Weight: 17 lbs 6.4 ounces (50% - a 3 lb weight gain since his last appointment 2 months ago!)
Height: 26 1/2 inches (50%)
Head: 17 inches (30%)

Seriously, how much does a kid in the 99% eat?!?

We saw a new doctor this time because our insurance just changed, and we LOVED her and the practice. Caden was a rock star for most of the appointment. I had to call and take whatever they could give us, so we ended up with a 9:30 appointment. Of course that one was available, that is nap time! He did great for about 45 min. and then fell apart - right as she was ready to examine him. Poor bubby!

The only bad thing that happened is that he was unable to get his shots. We have all been fighting a virus for the last week for so - first me, now Caden, and JZ is starting to sneeze and cough too - and Caden has broken out in hives. This morning when I got him up, I called JZ upstairs because I noticed some bumps on his teeny-tiny bum. By the time we got to the doctor and she took off his diaper, they were huge! She checked them out (long enough for him to pee all over me!), did a strep test (negative), and decided they were probably just from the virus he is fighting. He hasn't had a fever or really been acting sick, just broken out in hives. She gave him a dose of Benadryl and told us to come back next week for the shots. Just to be on the safe side, I have to slowly reintroduce all of the solid foods he has had up until now to make sure it is not a food allergy. She said that since his body has already reacted, if it is an allergy, it should pop out quickly after the food is given. I never thought I'd be hoping he had a virus, but that would be better than an allergy. She also wondered if he had ever seen a pediatric eye doctor because she thought he might be a little cross-eyed. She said it could be that, or just that the bridge of his nose his so wide. I couldn't help but smile - it's the one part of me he has, the Brazil bridge. Have you ever checked out my schnozola? It is huge too! He will forever have trouble finding sunglasses that fit. Thanks Dad. Other than that he is perfect (ok, I said that. She said, "on target.").

Caden is now upstairs sleeping very soundly. When we got home he didn't want to eat, didn't want me to hold him :( , he just wanted to go night-night in his own bed. I can appreciate that. I am thankful that all of this happened this week. Hopefully it will all be cleared up so Caden P. can enjoy his first Thanksgiving - after all, he has a really cute outfit!

Luckily, we had already taken his 6 month pictures. Here are a few ...

Funny!

We have the strangest kid. We thinks the weirdest things are funny. Check it out...
Here he is giggling while Daddy bops him on the head

Next comes eating. Funny stuff!

And the doorway jumper? Hysterical!

All that giggling tires a baby out! It was about this time that I decided it was time for bed.

Happy Half Birthday!

Yesterday Caden turned 6 months old. Happy half birthday to our sweet baby boy! We don't go in for his well baby check-up until next week, so stay tuned for the stats on our big guy.
What a roller coaster the last 6 months have been. We have laughed, cried, and thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. We had no idea we could love someone as much as we love Caden. Even on our worst days (or nights!) we feel so blessed to have him.
A few months ago I posted an entry about a few questions I had about motherhood. That was the post that sent everyone into a tailspin thinking I had totally lost it (I had!). Now that I'm several months down the road, I thought I'd revisit those questions again (if you missed the original post you can read it here)
Why does air seem to encourage projectile pooping and peeing? Not sure. Warm bath water seems to have the same effect (affect? I can never remember)
Why are newborns so noisy when they sleep? Yep, that's why C went to his bedroom very quickly!
When will I figure out the noise that means "feed me" and how it is different from the one that means "snuggle me." Yes. Snuggle me is a whiny cry. Feed me is just ticked off!
Will I ever be able to turn off my brain long enough to REALLY sleep for a few hours? Yes and No. I still sleep with one ear open, and I always seem to wake up 5 min. before he does, but I now am much more rested. It still amazes me how well one can function on very little sleep. You really do just get used to it.
Could I create a new perfume? It would be a lovely combination of milk and spit up - I think I could call is "Eau de New Mom." Although I still wear it every day, I'm not sure anyone else wants to!
Why does everything that hurts him hurt me twice as much? It still does and I think it always will.
Will I ever be able to get out of the house before noon? Yes! I'm happy to report that we can get to they gym, home for a nap and shower, and still be able to meet a girlfriend for lunch!
Will he ever be able to sleep in his bed by himself? It took a little training, but Operation Sleep Alone has been very successful!
How can one little guy be so darn cute?!? Good genes I guess :)
Why can't we get this breastfeeding thing down? If I pump and bottle feed him does that mean I'm a bad mom? Will I regret that I gave up too quickly? No, no, and no. I'm ok with my choice and he's fine. He's growing well, healthy, and very happy.
Will I be able to go more than two days without feeling overwhelmed and crying? Yep. Some days I still get overwhelmed, but it's (usually) more than two days apart!
Will I ever love anything or anyone as much as I love him? I don't know. Ask me again after #2!
Happy 6 month birthday Caden! We love, love, love YOU!!!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! We hope everyone had as much fun as we did! Here are a ridiculous number of pictures to show how Caden spent his first Halloween

Nana and Grandpa Kim came over to visit and carve pumpkins

Grandpa K also introduced C to Wisconsin football
After a nap, we dressed Caden up in his costume to take a few pictures

After that we dragged him to Uncle Brett's house, to a community fall fest in Golden, and then to pick up our jack-o-lantern pizza. All that makes a silly 'ol bear tired!

That evening we ate our jack-o-lantern pizza,
Lit our jack-o-lanterns,

and went trick-or-treating across the street.

That night we put Caden in his pumpkin jammies and put him to bed (an hour later than normal due to the time change. Torture!)

A successful night for our little goblin!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

We made it home from sunny Florida just in time for a winter storm in Colorado! As we were leaving the pumpkin patch Tuesday night we saw the snow moving in - and snow it did! When it was all over we ended up with close to 2 feet of snow in our yard. School was even canceled for two days. That hardly ever happens, and I NEVER remember it happening before Halloween!

We thought the time was perfect to introduce Caden to his first snow. So...

we bundled him up

and took him outside.

He felt the snowflakes on his eyelashes, stood in snow up to his waist, chatted up a few neighbors, tasted some flakes, and then felt it was too cold and we should all go inside.

Time elapsed: 10 minutes

Experiences people, this is all about experiences!
